Our 5 Favorite Fall Things to Do in Arlington, Virginia

October 5, 2017

Fall in Arlington is gorgeous. From the fall festivals and pumpkin patches to the red, orange and yellow leaves on the trees surrounding the community, there’s always something fun and interesting to do in the area. Here are some of our favorite fall events in and around Arlington.

  1. Take the Family to Cox Farms

Cox Farms, located about 30 minutes away in Centreville, is the place for fall fun. At Cox Farm, you can see farm animals, soar down massive slides, climb through tunnels made from hay, head into a monster themed maze, shop for farm trinkets and treats, and even give the kids the chance to tackle some farm chores. If your crew is a little older, Fields of Fear, located at Cox Farm, takes you into the back 40 to be entertained by ghouls and goblins.

  1. Virginia Wine Festival

The Virginia Wine Festival brings live music, craft exhibitors and the best wineries together in one place. If beer is more your style, craft beer trucks will be on hand. This is the oldest wine festival on the East Coast, and this year it’s being held in Old Town Alexandria in mid-October.

  1. Scottish Days at the Carlyle House

The Carlyle House is the oldest stone house in Alexandria. In Mid-October, it will host Scottish Heritage Day. Enjoy Scottish music, dancing and period fashion on a visit to this Alexandria icon. If you haven’t toured, this is a great time to see the house.

  1. Halloween Pumpkin Hunt

The Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden hosts an annual Halloween Pumpkin Hunt. Bring your kids in costume to the museum on the Saturday before Halloween to enjoy crafts, a costume parade, costumed characters, spooky stories, drinks, refreshments and a hunt for toy-filled pumpkins on the grounds.

  1. Do Some Leaf Peeping

Arlington’s fall foliage is legendary, so be sure to plan some time to take a drive and do some “leaf peeping.” The drive along the Potomac is one of the most picturesque during the fall. Fort Ward Park, Monticello Park and Jones Point Park area also stunning as the season progresses. Grab some extra to take home and do fall crafts with the kids!

Whether you’re looking for something to do with the kids, want to have some grown-up fall fun or simply want to enjoy the colors of the season, Arlington never disappoints. Your biggest challenge will be deciding what to do, as you will have a tremendous amount of options!
